Join us at OKFestival in Helsinki!
Open knowledge – from open educational resources, to open hardware and open data – can play a powerful role in supporting sustainable global development. At the Open Knowledge Festival in Helsinki development practitioners from around the world will come together to explore how open knowledge can make development cooperation more effective and help to address key development challenges like chronic poverty, access to education and natural resource management.
In the development stream we will these topics:
- Open Development Keynote: Philip Thigo from SODNET in Kenya
- Open Land Data – two events proposed by the Land Coalition on land grabbing
- Open Aid Flows exploring developments in the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI), and tracking aid to developing countries.
- Open NGOs: a hands-on workshop on the IATI open data standard
- Open Technology on the role that ICTs and open technologies, from open source to open hardware can play in development.
- Open = Accessible? A workshop on how open information can reach citizens in developing countries
- Open Development Hack Data
In collaboration with the Finnish NGO Networks KEHYS and KEPA the OpenAid project will organise the Open NGO Workshop on Thursday 20th. The focus of this workshop will be on how development NGOs can implement the IATI standard. For smaller NGOs the use of online tools for IATI implementation like Aidstream will be of interest. A representative of the UK NGO network BOND will share with us the experience of UK NGOs implementing IATI. Join us!
The Development Stream will take place mainly on the Wednesday and Thursday. But check out the whole programme and you will find twelve other exciting streams that can inspire our work in development cooperation: open democracy and citizens' movements, Transparency and Accountability, Open Research and Education, Open Geodata, Open Data Journalism, Gender and Diversity and Open Data and Sustainability!
